Pyrum Innovations AG: Construction start for the extension of the pyrolysis plant in Dillingen

Dillingen / Saar, 28 October 2021 - Pyrum Innovations AG ("Pyrum"), a pioneer in the sustainable recycling of end-of-life tyres based on its patented pyrolysis technology, has begun expanding the production capacity of its pyrolysis plant at the company's headquarters in Dillingen/Saar. So far, the plant consists of one production line, which has been operating on an industrial scale since May 2020, producing pyrolysis oil, recovered carbon black and pyrolysis gas from more than 7,000 tons of end-of-life tyres during this period. The addition of two more production lines will triple processing capacity to approximately 20,000 tons of end-of-life tyres per year. Excavation work for the foundations has already begun on the plant site. In addition, key components of the new plants have been ordered on a binding basis.

Pascal Klein, CEO of Pyrum Innovations AG: "With the groundbreaking for the new production lines, we are fully on track with our growth strategy and are making further progress towards a sustainable circular economy. The two new reactors will help us considerably to meet the high demand for our products from our partners, including BASF, Continental and Schwalbe."

In addition to the existing pyrolysis reactor, two further towers of around 25 metres in height are being built. Using Pyrum's patented technology, the reactors convert rubber granulate from end-of-life tyres into pyrolysis oil, gas, and recovered carbon black (rCB), which in turn are used by Pyrum's customers as raw materials in the production of new products. The energy required for the process is generated from the recovered gas with the help of a connected combined heat and power plant, so that Pyrum's pyrolysis process is 100% energy self-sufficient. Likewise, up to 98% of the CO2 emissions normally produced during the disposal of end-of-life tyres in a cement plant are saved. Pyrum's goal is to make an important contribution to achieving a sustainable circular economy.

About Pyrum Innovations AG

Pyrum Innovations AG is active in the attractive recycling market for end-of-life-tyres with its patented pyrolysis technology. Pyrum's pyrolysis plants are completely energy self-sufficient, save up to 98% of the CO2 emissions normally generated during the disposal of end-of-life-tyres in a cement plant and produce new raw materials such as pyrolysis oil, gas and recovered carbon black from the waste used as input materials. In this way, Pyrum closes the recyclable material loop and pursues a completely sustainable business model. As a pioneer, Pyrum Innovations AG was the first company in the end-of-life-tyre recycling sector to receive REACH registration from the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) for the pyrolysis oil it produces. This means that the oil is recognised as an official raw material and can be used as a raw material in production processes. In addition, Pyrum is continuously researching both new input materials as well as new raw materials to be produced, for example with the ongoing tests for

the extraction of hydrogen from the gas obtained by means of the patented technology. These achievements have also been recognised by international experts in the tyre industry. For example, Pyrum won the Best Tyre Recycling Innovation category at the inaugural Recircle Awards and has been nominated for the “Grand Prix Mittelstand” ("Großer Preis des Mittelstandes") from the German state of Saarland.
