Dillingen / Saar, 8 March 2021 - Pyrum Innovations AG, a pioneering company that recycles waste tyres 100% sustainably with its globally patented, unique pyrolysis technology, has been nominated for the "Grand Prix Mittelstand" ("Großer Preis des Mittelstandes") as well as for the "Recircle Award" in two categories.
The "Grand Prix Mittelstand" has been awarded annually since 1995 - since 2005 by the Oskar Patzelt Foundation - and is one of the most prestigious business awards in Germany. In 2008 and 2016, the Foundation's board members were honoured on behalf with the German Federal Cross of Merit ("Bundesverdienstkreuz") and in 2015 the Foundation was awarded the "Company Change Award". The prize is awarded on the basis of five competitive criteria: Overall development of the company, creating and securing jobs and apprenticeships, innovation and modernisation, commitment to the region as well as service, customer proximity and marketing. This is also to highlight the importance of the company for society. In the first stage of the competition, outstanding medium-sized companies are nominated by municipalities and associations, among others. Pyrum Innovations AG was nominated by the Ministry of Economics of Saarland and the district of Saarlouis for the federal state of Saarland. In the further course of the competition, twelve regional juries and a final jury decide on the winners, who are awarded at a gala in Düsseldorf on 25 September 2021.
In addition, Pyrum Innovations was nominated in the Best Tyre Recycling Innovation and Best Company Director categories for the inaugural Recircle Awards. The event is a new global initiative aimed at recognising companies and individuals within the tyre industry whose work focuses on achieving a recycling economy. The awards are presented in a total of 20 categories. The shortlist of nominated companies is determined by a selection committee made up of international industry experts and the winners will be announced on 15 March 2021.
Pascal Klein, CEO of Pyrum Innovations AG: "We are very pleased with our nominations for these two awards and see them as recognition of the successes we have achieved in recent years. We have been able to produce raw materials of consistently high quality with our pyrolysis plant, which has been running uninterrupted and trouble-free since May 2020. Among other things, this has led to us being able to reach an off-take agreement with BASF SE for our pyrolysis oil in the current volume of around 100,000 tonnes per year. In addition, BASF has pledged its support for the construction of up to 50 plants by 2025 and has reaffirmed its commitment by taking a 10 percent stake in Pyrum Innovations AG. We are therefore very optimistic about the future and want to grow strongly in the coming years.”
With its patented pyrolysis technology, Pyrum Innovations AG is active in the attractive recycling market for waste tyres, which currently has a volume of 39 billion euros that can be addressed by Pyrum. Pyrum's pyrolysis plants are completely energy self-sufficient, produce no CO2 emissions and create new raw materials from the waste used as input materials. In this way, Pyrum closes the recyclable material cycle and pursues a 100% sustainable business model. As a pioneer, Pyrum Innovations AG was the first company in the waste tyre recycling sector to receive REACH certification from the EU for the produced pyrolysis oil. This means that the oil is recognised as an official raw material. In addition, Pyrum is continuously researching new input materials as well as new raw materials to be produced, such as the successful ongoing tests for the extraction of hydrogen from the gas obtained by means of the patented technology.
