The contract to secure the land is to be signed shortly so that the planning and authorisation process for Pyrum’s second own plant in Saarland can begin as soon as possible.

Pascal Klein, CEO of Pyrum Innovations AG: “There were just two months between our first contact with Mayor Michael Forster in December 2022, which was established by the Saar Economic Development Corporation, the presentation to the parliamentary group chairmen in January and the cross-party, unanimous approval of the city council. This speed is unprecedented and we would like to thank those responsible in the city of Homburg for their great support. We now want to start planning as quickly as possible and are confident that the approval process will run just as smoothly as the expansion in Dillingen, as we are working with the same authorities.”

Michael Forster, Mayor of the city of Homburg, is also enthusiastic: “The establishment of Pyrum is also a great gain for the city of Homburg and a logical addition to our business location. With Pyrum’s future-oriented technology, we are building a bridge to a circular economy that ideally enriches our traditional automotive location with used tyre recycling. In addition, experience with the plant in Dillingen shows that the citizens of Homburg do not have to expect any noise or pollution.”

Like the main Pyrum plant in Dillingen, the new plant in Homburg will also consist of three pyrolysis reactors, which will have a processing capacity of around 20,000 tonnes of used tyres per year once completed. The location offers numerous valuable advantages: In addition to its proximity to the Michelin plant in Homburg – from which Pyrum has already been recycling used tyres for three years and with which the collaboration can now be expanded – and to BASF in Ludwigshafen – a strategic partner since autumn 2020 and customer of Pyrum’s pyrolysis oil – the site has a rail connection that enables environmentally friendly logistics. In addition, the new building will free up capacity at the Dillingen plant, which can be used for tyre acceptance from Luxembourg without having to build a separate plant in the neighbouring country.

District and university town of Homburg
Michael Klein
Head of Communications and Public Relations
At Forum 5
66424 Homburg
Phone: +49 68 41 101–222
Mobile: +49 172 6828 049
E‑mail: Michael.Klein(at)homburg.de
https://www.homburg.de

Pyrum Innovations AG: Homburg City Council approves new plant (20,000 tonnes/year).
