Dillingen / Saar, December 15, 2022 – Pyrum Innovations AG (“Pyrum”), a pioneering company that sustainably recycles scrap tires using its globally patented, unique pyrolysis technology, has further expanded its network of partners. As part of a pilot project with the BMW Group, Pyrum has recently begun recycling end-of-life tires from the BMW Group’s Saarland branch. The pilot project was preceded by an audit that examined issues such as occupational safety, fire safety, permits, and environmental regulations.

The BMW Group is participating in various pilot projects to validate new processes and methods. Recycling used tires through a high-quality processing method represents another step for the BMW Group toward an even more responsible use of resources.
For its part, Pyrum can use the pilot project to continue steadily expanding its supply of used tires, particularly given that the launch of additional production lines at its main plant in Dillingen/Saar has already been approved. The collaboration with BMW expands Pyrum’s existing and successful partnerships, including those with BASF, Continental, and the bicycle tire manufacturer Ralf Bohle (Schwalbe).

As a pioneer, Pyrum Innovations AG was the first company in the used tire recycling sector to receive REACH registration from the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) for the pyrolysis oil it produces—as early as 2018. This means the oil is officially recognized as a raw material that can be used in production processes. In addition, Pyrum has received ISCC PLUS certification for both the pyrolysis oil and the rCB. Both products are thus considered sustainable and renewable raw materials. These achievements have also been recognized by international experts in the tire industry. For example, Pyrum was honored in the “Best Tire Recycling Innovation” category at the inaugural Recircle Awards and was nominated for the Saarland State Grand Prize for Medium-Sized Businesses.
