Pyrum Innovations publishes Trading Update Q4 2022 with preliminary results for the financial year 2022

  • Total operating performance increased sharply by over 400 % to kEUR 18,997 (2021: kEUR 3,701)
  • Revenue from the operation of the plants increased by EUR 6.5 thousand to EUR 982 thousand (2021: EUR 922 thousand)
  • Preliminary consolidated net result for the year of EUR ‑7,987 thousand (2021: EUR ‑8,351 thousand)

Dillingen /Saar, 31 March 2023 — Pyrum Innovations AG (“Pyrum”), a pioneering company that sustainably recycles used tyres with its globally patented, unique pyrolysis technology, today published its preliminary figures for the period from 1 January to 31 December 2022. Total operating performance increased by 413 % to EUR 18,997 thousand in 2022 compared to the same period of the previous year (2021: EUR 3,701 thousand). This development was primarily due to the increase in own work capitalised of EUR 17,717 thousand (2021: EUR 2,807 thousand) as part of the ongoing plant expansion in Dillingen.

Revenue increased by 6.5 % compared to the previous year to EUR 982 thousand (2021: EUR 922 thousand). In anticipation of significantly higher sales prices following the commissioning of the new pelletising plant, Pyrum deliberately did not sell the coke it produced, but instead added a large proportion to its inventory. Since the first quarter of 2023, Pyrum has met the basic standards required to supply the automotive industry. This means that regular deliveries of high-quality recovered carbon black (rCB) can begin. To this end, a long-term serial supply agreement was signed with premium tyre manufacturer Continental at the end of March.

Other operating income increased by EUR 7.1 thousand to EUR 1,185 thousand in the reporting period (2021: EUR 1,106 thousand). This increase was primarily due to income from research and development. Here, research grants amounting to EUR 993 thousand (2021: EUR 510 thousand) were realised, in particular for the European “BlackCycle” project for the efficient recycling of used tyres. The preliminary consolidated net result for 2022 was EUR ‑7,987 thousand (2021: EUR ‑8,351 thousand).

Pascal Klein, CEO of Pyrum Innovations AG: “We have come a big step closer to our goal of establishing a sustainable circular economy for used tyres. With the commissioning of the two new production lines at our site in Dillingen, we expect to triple our capacity this year. At the same time, we are currently working on the planning for several new plant construction projects in order to drive forward the roll-out of our patented technology together with our partners and create additional recycling capacities at other locations.”

The Trading Update Q4 2022 of Pyrum Innovations AG is available on the company’s website at IR publications available. The publication of the final figures and the 2022 Annual Report is scheduled for 19 May 2023.

About Pyrum Innovations AG

With its patented pyrolysis technology, Pyrum Innovations AG is active in the attractive recycling market for used tyres and various plastics. Pyrum’s pyrolysis process is largely energy self-sufficient and, according to the Fraunhofer Institute, saves significantly more CO2 emissions than today’s standard recycling processes for used tyres — especially compared to incineration in cement plants — and produces new raw materials such as pyrolysis oil, gas and recycled carbon black (rCB) from the waste used as input materials. In this way, Pyrum closes the material cycle and pursues a 100% sustainable business model. As a pioneer, Pyrum Innovations AG was the first company in the waste tyre recycling sector to receive REACH registration from the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) for the pyrolysis oil it produces back in 2018. This means that the oil is recognised as an official raw material that can be used in production processes. In addition, Pyrum has received ISCC PLUS certification for the pyrolysis oil and the rCB. Both products are therefore recognised as sustainable and renewable raw materials. Pyrum has also received ISO 14001 certification for its environmental management system and ISO 9001 certification for its quality management system. These successes have also been recognised by international experts in the tyre industry. For example, Pyrum was honoured at the first Recircle Awards in the category Best Tyre Recycling Innovation and has been a finalist for the German SME award three times in a row.
